Description of Levels

Swimming Level 1- Introduction to Water Skills:
Prerequisites: 5-12 years old.
The objective of Level One is to help students feel comfortable in the water. Students will learn to fully submerge face, experience buoyancy, bubble blowing, enter and exit water independently, supported float on front and back, move through the water comfortably, supported kicking on front and back, introduction to alternating arm action.

Swimming Level 2- Fundamental Aquatic Skills:
Prerequisites: 5-12 years old and must be able to demonstrate the skills described in Level One.
The objective of Level Two is to give students success with fundamental skills. Students will learn to hold breath and fully submerge head, retrieve object under water, orientation to deep water, front and back float and glide, rhythmic breathing, flutter kick on front and back, combined stroke on front and back.

Swimming Level 3- Stroke Development:
Prerequisites: 5-12 years old and must be able to demonstrate the skills described in Level Two.
The objective of Level Three is to build on the skills of Level Two by providing additional guided practice. Students will learn to retrieve objects, front and back glide with push-off, coordinate arm stroke for front crawl with breathing to the side, coordinate back crawl, elementary back stroke.

Swimming Level 4- Stroke Improvement:
Prerequisites: 5-12 years old and must be able to demonstrate the skills described in Level Three.
The objective of Level Four is to develop confidence in the stroke learned thus far and to improve other aquatic skills. Students will learn to do deep water bobbing, rotary breathing, dive from the side of the pool, elementary backstroke, front and back crawl, breaststroke, sidestroke, butterfly.
