Keeping Your Child Safe and Responsible Online
In today's digital world, it's crucial for students to be safe, respectful, and responsible online. This page provides resources to help your family navigate the online environment.
Talking About Online Safety
Open communication is key. Discuss these topics regularly:
- Not sharing personal information (full name, address, phone, passwords).
- Being cautious about who they talk to online ("stranger danger" applies online too).
- Understanding that what's posted online can be permanent.
Understanding & Preventing Cyberbullying
Cyberbullying is bullying that takes place over digital devices. It can include mean texts, rumors spread online, or embarrassing photos posted without permission.
- Teach your child to treat others online with respect.
- Encourage them to tell a trusted adult if they see or experience cyberbullying.

Managing Screen Time
Balance is important. Help your child manage their screen time effectively:
- Establish "tech-free" zones or times (e.g., during meals, before bed).
- Encourage a variety of offline activities.
- Use parental controls on devices and apps where appropriate.
Social Media Smarts
If your child uses social media:
- Understand age restrictions for different platforms.
- Review privacy settings together.
- Discuss the importance of a positive digital footprint.
District's Acceptable Use Policy (AUP)
Our district has an Acceptable Use Policy that outlines responsible technology use for students. Please review it with your child.
