Referendum Renewal Ballot Question

SACS Referendum Renewal Ballot Question on November 8th, 2022

In 2021 lawmakers changed the state law regarding school referendums. Changes now allows referendums to be renewed every eight years instead of seven.  Additionally, specific school referendum ballot language must be included. Ballot questions now include percentages about a school’s average property tax revenue, among other things. Experts agree the potential for misinterpretation of the School Tax Levy in the ballot booth has raised some concerns.

The only tax increase will be for a voter's portion of the SCHOOL PROPERTY TAX LEVY and a homeowner‘s taxes do NOT go up by 23.2%, nor does a business’ tax go up by 21.7%, as result of this levy.

If renewed in November, the SACS operating referendum will be for the years of 2023-2030 in accordance with Indiana Code 20-46-1.
