Introducing a Three-Tiered Transportation Model for SACS Transportation

For several years, SACS, along with other school districts across the country, have faced severe Transportation staffing shortages and increased expenses. With no end in sight to these ongoing issues, SACS has been studying possible options to improve SACS’ transportation services, efficiency, and reliability.

At the recent school board meeting, SACS’ Board of Trustees were introduced to possible solutions that includes a shift from SACS’ current two-tier transportation model to a new three-tier system. This approach may require SACS to stagger the elementary, middle, and high school start and end times, and/or grouping schools, to improve the availability of drivers; increase the efficiency and reliability of bus routes; create shorter travel times for students; lower fuel costs by decreasing the number of buses needed; and reduce traffic congestion in and around schools throughout the district.

SACS has created a brief video that explains the three-tier model and it provides two options it is considering.
