New Leaders Approved

At the July 13 Southwest Allen County School (SACS) Board meeting, Trustees approved Susan Summers as Homestead High School (HHS) Principal. She replaces Dr. Park Ginder, who was recently named SACS Superintendent.

With more than 40 years of secondary education experience, Ms. Summers holds both a Bachelors and Masters degree from Ball State University. She began her career in Decatur County Community Schools and Bishop Luers High School before joining the teaching staff at HHS in 1997. In 2012, Ms. Summers was named Assistant Principal. Most recently, Indiana Association of School Principals honored Summers as the 2019 State Assistant Principal of the Year.

“It is the honor of a lifetime to be selected Principal of Homestead High School,” said Susan Summers. “I have the highest regard for the hard-working students we are privileged to educate, their parents, who provide these young people with support and guidance, and the outstanding faculty, staff and administrators who are dedicated to preparing our young people for their future endeavors.”

Also approved at the meeting: Sara Hoeppner will fill Summers’ vacated assistant principal position. Ms. Hoeppner comes to the position with 21 years of teaching experience, 20 of those in SACS teaching middle and high school English. She has both her Bachelors and Masters degrees from Indiana University and began her career in Goshen Community Schools.

“I am excited about my new role as assistant principal because it will give me an opportunity to work closely with teachers as well as students.  I am honored to work with such dedicated and gifted teachers who strive to give students the very best education possible.”
