Homestead senior, Jiwon Park, was recently named an Indiana University Wells Scholar. This scholarship provides full tuition and room and board. Nominated by the Homestead scholarship committee, Jiwon was originally part of a field of 600 students, which is then cut to 50 finalists. Those students are interviewed on campus and ultimately 25 are offered the scholarship. Jiwon is a highly accomplished student. She has worked with professors at IPFW, published a peer-reviewed paper (as primary author) in the field of bioinformatics and has presented the paper at an international conference in Las Vegas. Musically Jason is a gifted pianist. She has performed in Paris, France, and last October, at Carnegie Hall in New York City.
Dr. Steven Yager, Superintendent of Schools, said, “Being named an Indiana University Wells Scholar is a fantastic accomplishment. Jiwon is not only an outstanding student, but also a well-rounded person with many gifts. She represents Homestead High School very well and we are all proud of her achievements.”
